Francis Egerton, 1st Earl of Ellesmere KG PC (1 January 1800 – 18 February 1857), known as Lord Francis Leveson-Gower until 1833, was a British politician, writer, traveller and patron of the arts. In 1853-54, Lord Ellesmere was the British Commissioner to the New York International Exhibition held at the New York Crystal Palace. It’s believed his daughter, Lady Alice, was among those who accompanied him to North America.
