Cardigan is a fishing community in eastern Kings County of Prince Edward Island. It’s located on the Cardigan River and grew as a result of the shipbuilding industry and lumber trade. Today, Cardigan's primary industry is manufacturing, followed by fishing, mainly mussels and clams. On September 28, 2018, Cardigan was combined with six other municipalities to create the town of Three Rivers.
