Description: Two folio volumes are filled mainly with newspaper clippings relating to political and economic matters both Canadian and international. Covers the years 1887 to 1891. Includes numerous handwritten notes in Haythorne’s hand, along with a handwritten index. Book covers detached, but present. Acquired from the estate of former PEI antiques' dealer Charlotte Ramsay, Charlottetown, PEI.
Robert Poore Haythorne (1815-1891) was a prominent PEI landowner. He entered provincial politics as a Liberal in 1867. Haythorne was premier on two occasions, from 1869 to 1870, and from 1872 to 1873. He was named to the Senate in 1873 by Sir John A. MacDonald. Haythorne remained a Senator until his death in 1891.
