St. Peter's Bay (1971?)

CA$45.00

Title: A Brief History of St. Peter’s Bay
Author: C.C. Pratt
Publisher: Self-published. Undated (although there’s one online reference for 1971)
Description: Octavo. 16pp. Softcover. In the Introduction, the author describes his work as a “brief narrative” in which he has “not attempted to adhere strictly to dates and facts.” At the same time, the author insists what he has “written is however factual,” although based on the “word of mouth” accounts from “old friends long since departed.” The booklet shows minor edge-wear and soiling from handling consistent with moderate usage. Contents clean. Overall, we rate the condition as fair to good.

The community of St. Peter’s dates to the early 1700s with the French settlers. In 1720, the Village of St. Peter’s (Saint Pierre) was established. In 1953, it was incorporated into the Community of St. Peter’s Bay. However, the earliest visitors to the area were the Aboriginal peoples. Archaeological evidence of Aboriginal encampments has been found at Greenwich, which is just a few minutes away from St. Peter’s Bay. The village of St. Peters Bay is located in Kings County in the eastern portion of Prince Edward Island, just a little east of Morell. Its precise location is N 46°25', W 62°35'.
