Gallery 18 in New London is mounting an important exhibition and sale of original works by the late Prince Edward Island artist Thérèse D'Amour. This show will be the first in a quarter century on Prince Edward Island dedicated to the artist's work. The exhibition and sale, featuring watercolors and oil paintings from the artist's estate, is titled, Thérèse D'Amour – A Passion for Nature.
Thérèse was born on August 20, 1921, in Matapedia, Quebec. She studied Bioengineering – earning both a B.Sc. and a Masters degree. However, from an early age she retained a passion for art. Although mainly self-taught, she would later attend workshops with artists including Molly Lamb Bobak. Thérèse was a studio painter best known for landscapes, and many are included in the show.
Thérèse D'Amour died in O'Leary, P.E.I., on December 23, 2013, at the age of 92.
Artist's Quote:
“My work tries to capture aspects of my world-overview. I particularly love trees, their shapes, their character, their revelations of our physical world. Even when not present in one of my works, to me their absence is heard. They always line the path to where I want to go.” - Thérèse D'Amour (1921-2013)
